Tideswell is a charming village and unlike many small villages still maintains a good range of amenities. In the village you will find everything needed for a holiday. There is a great bakery / deli, three pubs, a superb cafe, two chip shops, a Co-op store (open 8am -10 pm), a village store / newsagents and an art gallery. Three of the pubs do food and all do great beer. The Horse and Jockey is a very short walk from the cottage and has some great beer. There is a new online shopping service that you can pre-order your shopping from the local independent shops and have it delivered to the cottage, check out www.shopintideswell.co.uk.
You can walk out of the front door of the cottage and within 2 mintues walk be on the limestone way or any number of other footpaths or bridleways exploring stunning scenery. Important nature reserves are within walking distance.
Also Tideswell is centrally placed within the Peak District National park. The Hope Valley is only 5 miles away to the north with other lovely villages (Castleton, Hope, Hathersage) and walking up on to Kinder, Mam Tor and Stanage. Bakewell is only 8 miles away to the south and Buxton 8 miles to the west. There are many things to do throughout the peak from good restaurants (especially Rowleys in Baslow), great country pubs, outstanding walking / climbing / cycling, shopping, visiting the show caves in and around Castleton and many other attractions for both sunny days and rainy days.
